The Frye Company was started in 1863 by John A. Frye and is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Mr. Frye ran the business for fifty years and after his death in 1911 was ran by his family until 1945. Frye boots were a favorite of military servicemen and were worn by soldiers in the American Civil War to WWII. Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and George S. Patton were famous Frye boot fans. During the 60s the iconic Campus boot was reintroduced with a bulky toe and chunky heel and is on display in the Smithsonian institute as a symbol of that era.
