Congo is the name of Liam’s S/S 2013 collection and it is influenced by the 1951 classic movie African Queen, 1920s Hosiery and leather sword belts.
The influence of the movie African Queen is seen mostly by the adrogynous dress of its star Katherine Hepburn. Loafers were one of the silhouettes selected for this collection and Fahy adds a feminine touch by giving them a higher heel and rounded shape. Also, the name of the collection,Congo is where the movie was filmed.
Adora uses hosiery to give it an alluring touch and it is also paired with rich burgundy in suede as well. Lace ribbon is also used for this heel to also give it that sensual boudoir look.
Mr. Fahy also uses a different mix of materials for this collection from a variety of cultures. Medieval leather sword belts, Congolese mask designs, Furry pom-poms, Watersnake, Java textiles and Bra Clips. All of these myriad materials in some way represents Liam’s cultural experiences from living in Zimbabwe and his other travels.
This is a great collection from Liam and the unique Java prints used by Fahy really makes this collection stand out. Liam is known for his meticulous work in creating beautiful shoes and Spring 2013 is another chapter in his journey.
