Mrs. Lhuillier’s fascination with fashion began as a little girl in the Phillipines watching her mother run her own high-end custom children’s apparel line. At eleven years old Monique began sketching and picking out fabrics to customize her dresses with local Filipino couturiers. In order to pursue her fashion dreams Lhuillier moved to Los Angeles and attends the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising.
Bridal fashion became more of a focus for Monique during her time at FIDM and more so when she was having problems finding a suitable gown for her wedding. 1996 marked the debut of her fashion collection and it gained positive reviews from the press and retail. Her husband, Tom Bugbee joined the company and the line horizontally expanded into homeware and last year, shoes. Mrs. Lhuillier became a CFDA member in 2003 and heels from her 2013 Fall collection are at the bottom of this article.
