The players in the fashion industry comes from myriad backgrounds and Tecovas founder Paul Hedrick is no exception. Before starting Tecovas, Hedrick worked for a NY private equity fund that focused on the retail industry and decided he needed a new challenge. In order to fulfill this quest Hedrick decided to go into fashion manufacturing by focusing on his boots; which he realized was the most expensive part of his outfit. To pursue this new business venture Paul Hedrick moved back to his native Texas and in October 2015 launched the Tecovas website.
Tecovas believes in selling the best cowboy boots for men and women at an accessible price point. Each boot is handmade in León, Mexico and sold directly to the customer online without any unnecessary retail mark-up. Luxury materials such as ostrich leather are used and each boot also comes in a variety of colors.
Initially launched as a two-man operation the label now employs a half-dozen employees and went from having 8,000 customers at the end of 2016 to a projected 50,000 by the end of 2017. Tecovas also gives back to the community by donating unused and gently worn boots to homeless shelters.
Now I have new cowboy boots to go along my Frye ones and to find out how the boots are made you can watch the video at the company’s website.
