Tom Ford was born in Austin, TX but spent most of his childhood in Santa Fe, NM. During his teens he moved to NYC and attended NYU and majored in art history. Ford soon changed his focus to architecture and studied at Parsons School of Design. After completing his studies Tom moved to Milan in 1990 and became the womenswear designer for Gucci. It was at Gucci Mr. Ford as its Creative Director began his iconic rise in the fashion industry by being the one to turn around the company’s fortunes. During his time at Gucci Tom also oversaw YSL and in 2002 became the Vice-Chairman of the Management Board of Gucci Group. Ford left Gucci Group after PPR purchased it in 2004 and in 2005 started his own label with former Gucci Group President and CEO Domenico de Sole. Today the Tom Ford label is a lifestyle brand with forty-nine freestanding stores in NYC, Milan, Tokyo, Las Vegas, Dubai, Zurich, New Delhi, Shanghai and Russia.
