During this year’s Dutch Design Week there will be a new exhibit called Watch Our Steps from October 20-28. This new exhibit will showcase footwear from the most innovative and inspiring design works over the past three years from fifteen different academies. The design academies that will be represented at this event will be Stedelijke Academie St. Niklaas(Belgium), Guangzhou Panyou Polytechnic(China), Wetterhoff(Finland), Deutsche Schuhfachshule(Germany), Polimoda(Italy), Bunka Fashion College(Japan), Hiko Mizuno(Japan), ArteZ(Netherlands), DeMontfort University(UK), London College of Fashion(UK), Royal College of Art(UK) and Fashion Institute of Technology(USA).
Watch Our Steps is organized by SLEM, a new education center focused on shoe design with locations in Waalwijk, Netherlands and Guangzhou,China. According to Ms. Nicoline van Enter, SLEM’s creative director the exhibit will give insight into new style themes, technologies and sustainable ideas. Also, at the event the best graduate will win the Global Footwear Design Award in which the winner will get training and consulting advice worth 1500 euros. The judges for this event will be shoe designers Jan Jensen, Charles Bergmans, Liza Snook, Rene van den Berg-owner of the Virtual Shoe Museum and Inge Specht-curator of the Dutch Shoe and Leather Museum.
